The eye Flashcards
1
Q
Sclera fuction?
A
- The tough, supporting wall of the eye.
2
Q
Cornea function?
A
- The transparent outer layer found at the front of the eye.
- It refracts light into the eye.
3
Q
Iris function?
A
- Contains muscles that allow it to control the diameter of the pupil, and therefore how much light enters the eye.
4
Q
Lens function?
A
- The lens focuses the light onto the retina (which contains receptor cells sensitive to light intensity and colour)
5
Q
Optic nerve function?
A
- Carries impulses from the receptors on the retina to the brain
6
Q
How does the iris reflex work?
A
- When light receptors in the eyes detect very bright light, a reflex is triggered to make the pupil smaller.
- The circular muscles in the iris contract, and the radial muscles relax.
- This reduces the amount of light that can enter the eye.
7
Q
Focusing on near objects reflex?
A
- Ciliary muscles contract, which slackens suspensory ligaments.
- Lens become fat.
- This increases the amount by which it reflects light.
8
Q
Looking at far objects?
A
- Ciliary muscles relax, which allows the suspensory ligaments to pull tight.
- This makes the lens go thin.
- So it refracts light by a smaller amount.
