The Eye Flashcards
Function of the iris
Colored based of the eye & makes the pupil contract and relax
Function of the lens
Changes shape & reflects light (like cornea)
Function of the optical nerve
Takes impulses to the brain
Function of the pupil
Allows light through for the lens
Function of the cornea(3)
Is transparent
No blood vessels(oxygen diffuses in the eye)
Reflects light
Function of the retina
It’s made out of the cone cells which show color, and the rod cells which show black&white.
Function of the fovea
Consists of cone cells (sensitive)
Explain what happens to the eye in dim light
Radial muscles CONTRACT and Circular muscles RELAX. Pupil DILATES to allow entry of light
Explain what happens when the eye is exposed to bright light
Radial muscles RELAX & Circular muscles CONTRACT. Pupil constricts to reduce light entry
Explain accommodation
The function of the eye focusing on near&distant objects to the retina. The way the lens brings about fine focusing.
Ecplainwhat happens when looking at a distant object
The light that enters the eye mustbebentless. Lens has to thin and elongate to refract light less bent. Ciliary muscles &sensory ligaments change thickens
