The Eye Flashcards
Describe the roles of the lens, suspensory ligaments and ciliary muscles in focusing light from a near object onto the retina.
The ciliary muscles contract, causing the suspensory ligaments to relax/slacken and the lens becomes rounder/more convex
What is C
The Cornea
What is B?
The Iris
When focusing on a near object, the ciliary muscles….
Contract towards the lens
What happens to the suspensory ligaments when focusing on a near object?
They relax
Which muscles contract to dilate (widen) the pupil?
The radial muscles (in the iris)
Which muscles contract to make the pupil constrict (become smaller)?
The circular muscles (in the iris)
Where in the eye are the receptor cells sensitive to light?
The retina
Which type of receptor cell in the retina are sensitive in low light and only see in black and white?
Rod cells
What type of receptor cells are sensitive to colour and concentrated in a region of the retina called the fovea?
Cones
