it showed the extent that her religious settlement was not well received in the north, even though it had been imposed for 10 years, the majority of the north remained catholic. therefore they were willing to defend their religion by joining the rebellion.
how did the capture of Durham indicate weaknesses in the crown?
because of the lack of strength and ability to maintain control over the castle showed how easy it was for the rebels to over through Elizabeth’s loyal subject.
