What are Royalists?
Royalists are people that support the monarchy
What are parliamentarians?
Parliamentarians support the parliament.
What is the Divine Right of Kings?
The Divine Right of Kings was the idea that the King only had to answer to God. If you crossed the King, you crossed God.
What is the issue about Charles’ wife being Catholic?
Parliament was concerned Charles would change the churches to fit more with her beliefs, which he did.
What does Charles do to solve the problem of him spending too much money?
He forces the people to pay “Ship money” which was extra taxes.
What does Charles do to Parliament?
He sacks them.
What was Charles charged with?
Treason. Being a “tyrant, traitor and murderer and a public and implacable enemy to the Commonwealth of England”.
What did lawyers do at Charles’ trial and why?
They disappeared as they didn’t want to be involved. This was because they didn’t think they were allowed to charge the King and they didn’t want to anger him.
