What are the two ways information is sent around your body?
There the nerves and hormones
What are hormones?
chemical molecules released into the blood. They only affect particular cells in particular organs.
Are hormones long-lasting or short-lasting?
Long-lasting
What are pituitary glands?
They produce hormones that regulate body conditions
Why are pituitary glands sometimes called master glands?
Because it produces many hormones that act on other glands to regulate body conditions
What is thyroid?
This produces thyroxine which is involved in regulating things like the rate of metabolism, the heart rate and temperature
What is the Adrenal gland
Produces adrenaline which is used to prepare your body for fight or flight
What is the pancreas?
Produces insulin which is used to regulate blood glucose levels
What are ovaries?
Produces oestrogen which is involved in the menstrual cycle.
What are testes?
Produces testosterone which is used to control puberty and sperm production in males
What are some examples of glands?
The pituitary gland, thyroid, adrenal gland, pancreas,m testes, ovaries,
What are the differences between hormones and nerves?
Nerves are fast but act for a short time on a precise area.
Hormones are slow but act for a long time in a general way
