Homeostasis Flashcards
Why is it important to keep the conditions steady?
So your body can function properly
What is homeostasis?
The regulation of the conditions inside your body to maintain a stable internal environment despite the changes in both internal and external conditions.
What does your body regulate?
body temperature, blood glucose levels, and water content
what are the control systems made up of?
receptors, coordination components, and effectors
What does the body do if levels get too high and what is it called?
1) The receptor detects a stimulus level is too high
2) The coordination centre receives this and organises a response
3) The effector produces a response that counteracts the change and this restores the optimum level and the level decreases
This is called negative feedback
What does the body do if levels get too low and what is it called?
1) The receptor detects a stimulus level is too low.
2) The coordination centre receives and organises a response
3) The effector produces a response that counteracts the change and this restores the optimum level and the level increases
This is called negative feedback
