Q

What are the three different main tonal effects and explain them ?

A

Chiaroscuro- a direct contrast between light and dark, not many in-between shades are shown. This makes the artwork look very dramatic, almost like a spotlight affect.

Modelling- the artist uses all of the different shades of light and dark in an artwork.

Sfumato- is a hazy effect created in painting and is normally used in the backgrounds of lanscape or portrait paintings to show depth and mystery.
