This is not a new invention, but rather the line has been around since people started communicating in drawings and then later in writing.
What is the definition of line?
A line is a path of a moving point across the surface of a picture.
What are the characteristics of a line?
- it always has a starting point
- it is used to express emotion, thoughts, inner feelings and moods
Explain point in art
The most basic of the elements of art. It is a small dot or source of something such as color or light. It is the start of a line. It can be made by writing/drawing implement or by point.
What is a straight line?
Appears hard and harsh. It is used to express emotion, inner thoughts and mood.
What is a curved line?
Appear gentle and soothing.
What is a vertical line?
Symbolism strength, stability and power.
What are horizontal lines?
Are seen as passive, relaxing and calm.
What are diagonal lines?
Create instability, energy and dynamism.
