The Ear Flashcards
parts of the ear
pinna, tympanic mambrain, ossiclea (3 bones), dynamic equalibrium, auditory canal, vestibule (static equalibrium(, cochlea
pinna
- outer part of external ear
- amplifies sound by funnelling it from a large area into the narrow auditory canal
auditory canal
carries soundwaves to tympatic membrane
tympatic membrane
recieves sound waves (eardrum)
ossicles
- malleus, incus, stapes
tiny bones that amplify and carry sound in the middle ear
oval window
- recieves sound waves from the ossicles
eustachian tube
air filled tube of the middle ear that equalizes pressure between the outer and middle ear
cochlea
coild tube within the middle ear that recives soundwaves and converts them into nerve impulses
organ of corti
vibration causes the fluid in the cochlea to move bending the little hairs (corti) sending a signal to the brain
vestibule
chamber at the base of the semicircular canal
- concerned with static equalibrium; left, right, up, down
semicircular canals
fluid filled structures the provide information for dynamic equalibrium; flips, rollercoasters, ect.
