THE DIENCEPHALON (Thalami & Basal Ganglia), BRAINSTEM and CEREBELLUM Flashcards
what are the 4 structures that makes up the diencephalon?
Thalamus
Hypothalamus
Subthalamus
Epithalamus
What is the function of the thalamus?
Carries all of the sensory information to the cerebral cortex (expect smell)
What structures make up the basal ganglia?
Caudate nucleus globus pallidus putamen claustrum Amygdala
What is the function of the subthalamus?
Aids in controling motor information
What is the function of the epithalamus?
Processes the sense of smell and emotional response and regulates sleep/wake cycle
What is the function of the hypothalamus?
Processes information associated with the sense of smell and emotions. Regulates hormones, controls autonomic nervous system (ANS) - body temp, thirst, hunger, mood, sleep, sex drive
What structures make up the brain stem?
medulla, pons, midbrain
