whats the key legislation of the health and saftey work act?
ften referred to as HASAW or HSW, this Act of Parliament is the main piece of UK health and safety legislation. it means It places a duty on all employers “to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work” of all their employees.
what are the duties on employees?
The HSWA also places duties on employees to:
ensure their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their work
co-operate with their employer in health and safety matters
notify their employers of any shortcomings in health and safety arrangements
not misuse or interfere with items provided for health and safety reasons, e.g. using fire extinguishers to hold doors open.
duty of care
on all owners and managers to ensure that their employees and anyone else effected by activities are safe.
