what is the aim of the licensing act of 2003?
To give more flexiabltity for hospitality and leisure industries. Also to offer the public greater opportunities.
what does the licensing act provide powers to?
BUT tougher powers for Police, Courts and Local Authorities to use against those who act against ‘the public good’

What is a premises license required for?
Regulated Public entertainment (includes theatres, cinemas and ‘event spaces’)
Sale of alcohol
Provision of late night refreshment (that is hot food and drink 23:00-05:00)
what is regulated public entertainment which needs a premises license for?
live music recorded music plays films indoor sports boxing or wresting
what is a premises license for?
vailed for life
the operation schedule is the application which tells you the main conditions of the license
what does the operation schedule involve?
Licensable activities
This means that the provision of late night food and alcohol music and any other activities. The sale of alcohol and times of license.
General opening times of the premises
The period of the licence
this applies for one off events i.e Glastonbury. However due to the numbers attending wouldn’t qualify for a temporary event notice
Designated premises supervisor
this means that Premises which sell alcohol must name a specific person (who must have a Personal Licence) so they are responsible for the for the premises

Steps to promote the licensing objectives
All four licensing objectives must be considered and a risk assessment should be included
what is a personal license?
valid for 10 years
granted and renewed by local authority
authorises sale of alcohol on the premises with a premises license( included off sales)
what are the qualifications to get a personal license?
must be over 18
has a licensing qualification
hasn’t been convicted for a relevant event
has had a similar licensee for 5 years and has not been convicted
what is premises supervisor?
this is when someone who has personal license is responsible for the premises
they must be named on the license
but they aren’t required on the license
its required where alcohol is sold
members club? what is it?
must have at least 25 members
alcohol should only be sold to benefit the club
no need for premises supervisor or premises license
what does TEN’S stand for?
tempory events notice
why do you not need a premises license or personal license for tens event?
as the event can not last more than 96hours
and will not be attended by 499 people
