The Creature of Habit Flashcards
He had very big teeth.
The Creature of Habit
And very big eyes.
The Creature of Habit
And very, very big feet.
The Creature of Habit
First, he ate three pineapples and two bananas.
The Creature of Habit
Then he walked down to the water to say hello to the fish.
The Creature of Habit
After that, he went looking for shells.
The Creature of Habit
But he kept only the very best ones.
The Creature of Habit
Next, he said hello to the trees.
The Creature of Habit
Hello, rocks!
The Creature of Habit
Hello, crab!
The Creature of Habit
When it was time for dinner, he ate three more pineapples and two more bananas.
The Creature of Habit
Then he brushed his teeth and went to bed.
The Creature of Habit
Every day was exactly the same.
The Creature of Habit
Then one morning, he spotted a boat.
The Creature of Habit
It was a very small boat.
The Creature of Habit
He had very small teeth.
The Creature of Habit
And very small eyes.
The Creature of Habit
And very, very small feet.
The Creature of Habit
He taught him how to collect pineapples and bananas and how to say hello to the fish.
The Creature of Habit
He showed him how to find all the very best shells and when to eat his dinner and brush his teeth and go to bed.
The Creature of Habit
Just like he did every day.
The Creature of Habit
But the very small creature was nowhere to be found.
The Creature of Habit
When he finally appeared, he was excited to start the day too.
The Creature of Habit
Only instead of eating three pineapples and two bananas, he ate a single coconut.
The Creature of Habit
Instead of saying hello to the fish, he went for a swim with them.
The Creature of Habit
And instead of collecting shells, he collected…well, everything else.
The Creature of Habit
He just sat on the beach and looked at the stars.
The Creature of Habit
There was supposed to be a schedule.
The Creature of Habit
A routine.
The Creature of Habit
An order to things.
The Creature of Habit
Otherwise, anything could happen.
The Creature of Habit
Some days he slept in, and some days he stayed up late.
The Creature of Habit
Some days he did nothing at all.
The Creature of Habit
It was absolute madness.
The Creature of Habit
It was smaller than a pineapple and rounder than a banana.
The Creature of Habit
It was something he’d never tried before.
The Creature of Habit
And it was…pretty good.
The Creature of Habit
But not as good as a pineapple.
The Creature of Habit
But never the clouds
The Creature of Habit
He thought about giving it a try.
The Creature of Habit
But he didn’t want to meet his appointment with the fish.
The Creature of Habit
The day was almost done.
The Creature of Habit
It was time to eat dinner and brush their teeth and go to bed.
The Creature of Habit
Then he stood up again, his very big heart beating very, very fast.
The Creature of Habit
Everything looked different.
The Creature of Habit
The sky was full of color, and the sun - as round as an orange - was disappearing into the water.
The Creature of Habit
He knew this wasn’t where he was supposed to be right now.
But as the world turned from pink to orange to purple all around him, he wondered if maybe it actually was.
The Creature of Habit
And tomorrow, there would be time to stick to the schedule…if they wanted to.
The Creature of Habit
After all, anything could happen.
The Creature of Habit
But for now, the sky was beginning to perform yet another magic trick.
The Creature of Habit
Together, they sat and watched it change.
The Creature of Habit
Hello, stars!
