A
A country whose government has been taken over and control by another country / government

A
At the end of World War II Russia and its red Army was able to ‘free’ countries in Eastern Europe from Nazi control however when the war ended Stalin still had his red Army in these countries did not want to give them up again

Why did Stalin want to keep the satellite States
A
- To create a barrier/buffer between Russia and Germany who he still did not trust
- to show his power and strength of a superpower against the USA
- to increase the area Communist influence in Europe
