When the grand Alliance met in Potsdam, it was agreed that Germany and it’s capital city Berlin would be divided into four separate zones

Why was Berlin significant to the west and the soviet union

A

Berlin was located in the middle of the Soviet section of Germany
Military checkpoint support in place to control the movement between the Soviet zones and the western zones

This meant the capital of Germany was trapped in Soviet zone there were constant disagreement about what to do with Berlin

A

USA Britain and France united are three zones into Trizonia resulting in an even more obvious divide between western Germany and the eastern Germany

Deutschmark = the currency created by Britain France and the USA for Trizonia. This made the division between West and east Germany more obvious

They stopped food and essential materials such as fuel getting to the western controlled parts the Berlin

Decided to fly in food and resources instead
This was a risk as they don’t know with the Soviet union would shoot down the planes
It was successful and over 1000 tonnes of food and supplies were taken into Berlin by the Americans and British
