The Covenant with Abraham (Judaism Flashcards
A Summary of Covenant with Abraham
God promised Abraham that if he left his city, Ur, and went to Canaan, God would give him children that would outnumber the stars in the sky. Abraham did this and God gave him and his wife a son, Isaac. God commanded Abraham that as a symbol of the covenant, Abraham circumcise Isaac when he was 8 days old. Later God asked Abraham to sacrifice his son. Abraham was sad but followed God’s orders, just as Abraham was about to kill his son, God spoke and said ‘stop, I do not want you to kill the boy!’ God had asked Abraham this to test Abraham’s trust in God.
How does the Covenant still affect Jews today
1st part of the promise : The promised land
2nd part of the promised : A Great nation
3rd part of the promise : Blessings and savings
