Why is the separation of powers necessary? (not upheld as strictly as US).
-It acts as a check on the other branches.
-preventing an abuse of power
What is meant by parliamentary supremacy?
-has overriding power to amend/ create any law.
What is the role of the judiciary in the constitution?
-To bring about the will of parliament
-Also uphold the HRA 1998- can declare things as incompatible
-serves as a check
What is common law?
Case made law.
What is statute law?

Which acts allow parliament to pass bills without the consent of the HOL?
-The parliament act 1949 and 1911
What do the parliament acts of 1949 and 1911 do?
-HOL can only delay one year.
-house of lords have no impact on public spending or tax.
Who cannot change acts of parliament?
Executive and judicial they must uphold the will of parliament.
Why is the judiciary kept entirely independent?
-so that it can be free of government intervention.
