The concept of place Flashcards
What is an insider?
An insider is someone who is familiar with a place and who feels welcome in that place, e.g. they feel that they belong there.
e.g. residents from the same country who all share the same cultural values may feel like insides inside that country.
What is an outsider?
An outsider is someone who feels unwelcome or excluded from a place, they don’t feel like they belong there.
e.g. international migrants, who don’t share the same cultural values.
What is an experienced place?
Experienced places are such places that people have spent time in. When a person visits or lives in this place their experiences, such as the people they see and people they meet, shape their sense of place.
What is a media place?
Media places are places that people have not been to, but have created a sense of place from their view in the media e.g. books, art, and films.
