a Union General- a Civil War hero that won the Battle of Antietam and Vicksburg. He talked to Robert E. Lee to end the Civil War at the Appomattox Court House.

A Confederate officer that lost at the Battle of Gettysburg. He also surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant at the Appomattox Court House
William Clarke Quantrail
He led Quantrill’s raid, an attack at Lawrence on August 21, 1863.
William T. Sherman
He served as a general in the Union army during the Civil War. He was known for his great military strategy and command. Sherman used total war on his march to sea. this was a march of freedom.
How did the Civil War affect the economies of both sides?
The Civil War destroyed many towns, and all of the weapons and ammunition cost a lot of money, and it hurt the southern work force
Gettysburg
Started because Lee and the Confederate army went to Gettysburg looking for supplies, not war because he was not familiar with the land. The Union won the battle of Gettysburg because they controlled the high ground and had many more soldiers.
Antietam
was started by Lee invading Union territory. It was a key win for the Union, and was the deadliest single day of fighting in the war. It’s in Maryland.
Vicksburg
a key win for the Union army in Mississippi. Once the Union won this battle, they had control of the Mississippi River and conquered part of the Anaconda plan. Union was led by Ulysses S. Grant.
The Burning of Lawrence
a raid led by William Clarke Quantrill august 21, 1863. This raid had 400 men that were shooting every man they saw and burning down the town and shooting into army tents.
The Emancipation Proclamation
this was a proclamation that Lincoln wrote during the Civil War that freed all slaves in the southern states.
