The cell cycle Flashcards
DNA replication
1) DNA helicase breaks the hydrogen bonds between the complementary base pairs between the two strands in a double helix, double helix unwinds
2) Each of the seperated parentsl DNA strands acts as a template, free floating nucleotides within the nucleus are attached to their complementary base pairs
3) The adjacent nucleotides are joined together to form a phosphodiester bond by a condensation reaction. DNA polymerse catalyses this to make a new strand
Describe the role of DNA polymerase in the semi conservative replication of DNA
connects activated free nucleotides together
to form phosphodiester bonds in a condensation reaction
Suggest two environmental variables which could be changed to increase h growth rate of cells
Increased conc of glucose —-> increased resp
Increased temp —> increased enzyme activity
