The cell cycle Flashcards
What are the stages of the cell cycle
interphase, G1, S, G2, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase
what occurs in interphase
the cell lives normally
what occurs in the G1 phase
growth
what occurs in the S phase
DNA replication
what occurs in the G2 phase
growth and preparation
what occurs in the prophase
chromosomes condense
what occurs in the metaphase
chromosomes line up in middle of cell
what occurs in the anaphase
chromosomes pulled away at the centromere to opposite poles of the cell
what occurs in the telophase
the nucleus reforms
What is the purpose of the G1 checkpoint
checks DNA for damage, checks nutrients are sufficient and that the cell size and growth patterns are normal
What is the purpose of the G2 checkpoint
checks DNA is undamaged an that cell size is big enough for division
What is the purpose of the Mitosis checkpoint
checks for spindle defects in chromosome attachment. Chromosomes aligned and separated correctly.
