Q

What is clotting

A

Platelets in the blood form clots, this seals wounds quickly and protects the body against excessive bleeding

Q

What is transport (in the cardiovascular system)

A

Blood Carries oxygen and nutrients for the body work. It also carries waste products away

Q

What is temperature regulation

A

When the body maintains temperature by controlling the internal lumen
When your too hot vasodilation increase blood flow to the skin to cool you down so you don’t overheat

Q

Describe the route blood takes through the heart

A
  • blood returns from the body through the superior vena cava and inferior vena cava
  • Deoxygenated blood enters the right atrium
  • Deoxygenated blood passes through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle
  • Deoxygenated blood is pumped through pulmonary arteries to the lungs. The semi-lunar valves prevent back flow
  • Blood is oxygenated at the lungs
  • Oxygenated blood returns to the heart through the pulmonary veins
  • Oxygenated blood enters the left atrium
  • Oxygenated blood passes through the bicuspid valve and into the left ventricle
  • Oxygenated blood is pumped through the aorta to the muscles and organs. Semi- lunar valves prevent backflow

16
Q

What do platelets do

A

clot the blood and scab around to site of an injury to seal open wounds

17
Q

What is plasma

A

A watery fluid that makes blood a liquid p. Without it blood would not flow

18
Q

Describe arteries and their job

A
  • carry blood away from the heart
  • carry oxygenated blood
  • blood pressure is high
  • thick muscular walls
19
Q

What happens to arteries during exercise

A

They vasodilate

20
Q

Describe the capillaries and their job

A

Very narrow walls
Gases diffuse through the walls
Blood becomes deoxygenated

21
Q

Describe the veins and their jobs

A

Carries blood back to the heart
Carry deoxygenated blood
Low blood pressure
Contain one pocket valves to prevent backflow
