The Blood Flashcards
Blood plasma
Your blood plasma is a yellow liquid it transports all of your blood cells and other substances round your body
Red blood cells
There are more red blood cells in your body than any other type of blood in your body. The function is to carry oxygen to other parts of your body
White blood cells
White blood cells are bigger than red blood cells and there are fewer of them. They have a nucleus and form a defence system around harmful microorganisms
Platelet
Platelets are small fragments of cells. They have no nucleus. They are very important for clotting the wound
Double circulatory system
The majority of mammals utilize a double circulatory system. This means we have two loops in our body in which blood circulates. One is oxygenated, meaning oxygen rich, and the other is deoxygenated, which means it has little to no oxygen, but a lot of carbon dioxide.
Arteries
Your arteries carry’s blood away from your heart to the organisms of your body
Veins
The veins carry blood away from the organs towards your heart. This blood is low in oxygen and is a purple colour.
Capillaries
Throughout your body the capillaries form a huge network of tiny vessels, linking veins and arteries
