What is the First Amendment?
Guarantees freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly, and petition.
What is the Second Amendment?
Protects the right to keep and bear arms (meaning you have the right to own a gun)
What is the Third Amendment?
Prohibits the quartering of soldiers in private homes without the owner’s consent in peace time.
What is the Fourth Amendment?
Protects against unreasonable searches and seizures and sets requirements for search (warrants) based on probable cause.
What is the Fifth Amendment?
Provides for the right to due process, prohibits double jeopardy and self-incrimination, and out;nes for eminent domain.
(Double Jeopardy from being tried twice for the same offense)
What is the Sixth Amendment?
Guarantees the right to a speedy and public trial by an impartial jury, the right to be informed criminal charges, and the right to confront and obtain witnesses.
(Must be judged by an unbiased jury)
What is the Seventh Amendment?
Guarantee the right to jury trial in civil cases involving claims over a certain amount of money.
(Where the value of controversy exceeds twenty dollars).
What is the Eighth Amendment?
Prohibits excessive bail and fines, as well as cruel and unusual punishments.
What is the Ninth Amendment?
Asserts that the enumeration of certain rights in the Constitution does not mean that people do not have other rights not mentioned.
What is the Tenth Amendment?
It gives states any power not specifically given to the federal government by the Constitution belongs to the States and the people.
