What does Covenant mean?
Testament.
A covenant is a serious promise like wedding vows.
What is the Bible?
Many different books by many different human authors.
The Old Testament is about the Jewish People breaking their promises to God and their suffering as a result- humans turn their back on God.
The New Testament is the the story of God sending his son to become human - to promise humans and show me how to live a pure life in God.
What is a genre?
What types of genres are in the Bible?
A type of literature e.g. Romantic novel, comedy
Historic narrative/epic - e.g. Genesis Letters - e.g. Ephesians Love poetry - e.g. Song of Songs Wisdom - e.g. Proverbs Prophecy - e.g. Jeremiah Law - e.g. Exodus Parable - eg Matthew
What do Literalists or Fundamentalists believe?
They believe every word in the Bible is true.
They reject scientific evidence saying it is sent to test their faith.
They believe the world was created in 6 days.
These believes can make them seem arrogant and annoying.
What is a symbolic interpretation of the creation
The author of Genesis was not a scientist but was inspired to write a poem about questions like “why is there a world?” And “why are we here?”
Genesis contains important messages like God created a beautiful and good universe and humans in His own image.
We are the stewards of Creation.
God may have inspired the author.
This does not challenge science but gives a good outlook on life.
What did Genesis say about the Creation?
God created the world in 6 days. Darkness - let there be light Day and night created Sky,land and sea created. Vegetation created. Moon and stars created. Fish and birds created. Animals and humans created. God rested on the 7th day.
Can you believe in creation and science?
Yes with a liberal or symbolic view of the Bible.
