What was Babington’s plan?
To kill Elizabeth, rescue Mary and place her on the throne.

Managed to get Mary’s servants to hide coded messages within beer barrels that were sent to her room.
How was the plot uncovered?
The servants were spies for Walsingham, Elizabeth’s spymaster. The original message was decoded and taken straight to Elizabeth.
What message was clear to Elizabeth?
That Mary was plotting to kill the Queen.
What did Elizabeth order Mary go on trial for?
Treason.

She claimed that she was not English, so could not be guilty of treason.
