Audience
How do you measure the success of a speech?
By seeing if the audience reacted positively/negatively. An example would be if people bought your product after seeing your commercial or not.
What are three key components to consider in regards to your audience?
- Demographic profile
- Information at hand about the topic
- Their position on the topic
These aspects fall under the demographic profile; Why are they important?
Gender, education, age, province, religion, employment, etc. and these aspects are important because we can shape our speeches to align with our audience (laymanizing some terms and taking a more sensitive approach)
Why is it important to know how much knowledge your audience has on a topic?
So we can gauge if we need to refresh them on the basics of such topic or if we can discuss more advanced information.
What are the five positions on a topic and which is the most critical in terms of persuading your audience?
- Affirmative
- Negative
- Neutral
- Undecided - most critical as this can make or break a speech
- Uninterested
