The Attribution Theory Flashcards
Weiner’s model
Explains that there are 4 categories which are placed on two dimensions.
These dimensions are locus of causality and stability. These are categorised into internal, external, stable and unstable
How could the coach maintain motivation of a team after a failure
The coach should make sure that they never attribute failure to internal factors such as the ability of the performer. Instead, the coach should attribute failure to internal unstable factors such as effort. These factors can be changed and therefore the performer will be able to improve
The self serving bias
The tendency to attribute success to internal factors and failures to external factors. Attributing our successes to internal factors will develop our self esteem and therefore increase motivation. In contrast, if we attribute failure to internal factors, the performer is likely to start to believe that we do not have the ability so they lose motivation
Attribution
The perceived causes of successes and failure.
