- Presence: military and professional bearing, fitness, confidence, and resilience.
- Intellect: mental agility, sound judgement, innovation, interpersonal tact, and expertise.

- Leads: leads others, builds trust, extends influence beyond the chain of command, leads by example, and communicates.
- Develops: creates a positive environment/fosters espirit de corps, prepares self, develops others, stewards the profession.
- Achieves: gets results.

- Direct Leadership: face to face or first line leadership.
- Organizational Leadership: influence several hundred to several thousand indirectly.
- Strategic Leadership: influence several thousand to hundreds of thousands indirectly.
