Juno Queen of heaven (Aeneas enemy) tries to drive Aeneas’ fleet to destruction using Aeolus the king of the winds power, because she has heard of a prophecy the he will destroy her favourite city Carthage and is outraged at the judgement of the Trojan prince Paris who chose Helen over her as the greatest beauty. However Neptune calms the waves and the Trojan fleet is driven on to the shores of Carthage

Queen Dido welcomes Aeneas in the temple of Juno and his people and influenced by the Gods falls in love with him

At a banquet Aeneas tells of the sack of Troy, the treachery of the Greeks and their wooden horse, death of his wife Creusa who tells him to leave and create a new land in the West and his escape, Hector’s warning in a dream and his wanderings looking for a new home. Dodo falls hopelessly in love with him

Jupiter recalls Aeneas to keep to his course and found the new city, Dido commits suicide in grief

Aeneas consults the Cumaean Sybil who leads him through the underworld where he sees Dido who spurns him and his dead father who urges him on to found Rome

Aeneas holds funeral games for his father in Sicily

Aeneas arrives in Italy, allies with the Latins at Latium - King Latinus and Princess Lavinia

Turnus king of the Rutulians is furious as Lavinia was promised to him. Juno incites the Fury Electo (discord) to spur Turnus and Lavinia’s mother Amata to turn against Aeneas

Sequence of events III

A new alliance

A

An alliance is made with the Arcadian King Evander who sits on the future site of Rome and Aeneas is given new armour and a shield that depicts the future history of Rome (Augustus)

An attack is made by Nisus and Euryalus on the Rutulians and a battle follows were Evander’s son Pallas is slaughtered by Turnus and the Volscian warrior princess Camilla who was allied with Turnusalso dies

There is a final duel at Latinus’s city where Aeneas kills Turnus in single combat especially after seeing Pallas’ sword beltand Amata, Lavinia’s mother dies
