UK chose India over the gold rich South America
Only the UK understood the geopolitical value of north america: land and river networks. The UK turned North America into a global power.
France in Canada for fur trade, but still need armies at home so coundn’t send arms and labor to the colonies. Also could not send a large # of settlers. Selling the Lousianna purchase was a mistake, but Napoleon needed the money, was good to connect yourself to the US, but NEVER SELL YOUR LAND
North America

South America
MaKinder ignores South America, but Spykman brings it into discussion (line of division in the Western hemisphere is Amazon Jungle)
Carribiean countries = Venezuela, Guyana, and Colombia
Not geopolitically integrated with NAmerica and CAmerica
Tensions btw Boliva and Chile
Mountains and jungles precent cross regional integration: cities on the coast trade with eachother, no network of high ways, functions as island
Andes split the continent length wide
Argentica has huge potential: fertile land, tourism, size (but in a bad spot for global trade lines)
