What caused the first world war?
The first world war was caused by a growing sense of nationalism in European countries. One major catalyst was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria.
Who was involved in the first world war?
While the war started in Europe, many countries were involved including Russia, Japan, Serbia and the United States.

What was the partition of Ireland?
In 1921-22, a peace treaty was signed making Ireland into two countries. Northern Ireland was Protestant and remained part of the UK. The Republic of Ireland remained a free state.
What was Home Rule for Ireland?
Home Rule was a government promise that Ireland could self-govern with its own parliament and still be part of the UK.
What are the Troubles?
There are people in Northern Ireland and the Republic who disagree with the separation and want one free, independent nation. There has been years of fighting and terror campaigning, and this known as The Troubles.
What led to the second world war?
Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933. He believed the conditions imposed on Germany after WWI were unfair, and he wanted to conquer more land. In 1939, the Germans invaded Poland.
What and when was the Battle of Britain?
The Battle of Britain was in the summer of 1940. The Germans wanted to invade Britain, but they needed control of the air first. Britain won the aerial battle against the Germans.
What was the Blitz?
The Blitz was was a series of German bomb attacks on London and other British cities at night.
