Discourse events
An act of communication involving writer/speakers and readers/listeners.
Text producer
People responsible for creating a text.
Text receiver
People interpreting (reading or listening to) a text.
Implied reader
The reader who best fits the message of the text (the idealised audience)
Actual reader
Anyone who might read a text (more than just its implied reader)
Implied writer
The writer that the readers have in mind.
Actual writer
Usually someone very different to who the reader may think e.g. a professional copywriter
Discourse community
A group of people with shared interests and benefits who are likely to respond to texts in a similar way.
Multi-purpose text
A text that clearly has more than one purpose.
Primary purpose
The main purpose of a text.
Secondary purpose
An additional, more subtle purpose.
