1st line drug for
-Rickettsial infections (Rocky mountain spotted fever, Typhus fever, rickettsialpox and Q fever)
-Chlamydial infection : Psittacosis,
-Lymphogranuloma venereum
-Granuloma inguinale ( Calymm granulomatis)
-Nonspecific urethritis (caused by Ureaplasma urealyticum)
-Atypical pneumonia (caused by Mycoplasma pneumoniae)
-Lyme disease (caused by Borrelia burgdoferri)
-Recurrent fever (caused by Borrelia recurrentis) .
Plague- Combined with streptomycin
Tularemia- Combined with streptomycin
Brucellosis: It is treated with a combination of doxycycline with rifampin, gentamicin, or streptomycin
2ND drugs for
❑ For amoebiasis along with metronidazole
❑ Doxycycline is combined with other antimalarial agents for treating chloroquine-resistant P. falciparum malaria. It is used alone for malarial chemoprophylaxis
❑ Peptic ulcer (caused by H. pylori)
❑ Acne vulgaris- Propionibacterium
❑ Cholera
❑ Anthrax
Minocycline-
vestibular toxicity, skin pigmentation.
Demeclocycline and doxycycline.
