Tests, Measures & Interventions Flashcards
What is “measurement”?
numeral assigned to an object, event or person or the class (category) to which an object, event or person is assigned according to rules
What are the types of measurements?
Self-reported measures: patient perceived, subjective
(i.e. pain, confidence etc.)
Performance-based measures: clinically/ professionally measured, objective (i.e. standardized walk test)
Why do we measure?
To identify: signs, symptoms, impairments, barries, functional limitations, etc.
To facilitate: data, comparisons between outcomes of different interventions
To provide: information regarding progress
What is Outcome Status?
Outcome Measure?
Outcome status: the impact of care on patient health over time
Outcome measure: quantify changes that result from patient management
What is reliability?
What is Validity?
Consistency over time with very little error
The degree to which useful, meaningful interpretation can be inferred from a measurement
What are the 3 parts to the Intervention?
1) Coordination, communication and documentation
2) Patient/ client instruction (education)
3) Procedural intervention (achievement of goals)
(According to Guide: 2 types of Intervention: education and achievement of goals)
How are decisions made in the selection of PT intervention?
1) timely monitoring
2) progress toward goal/ achievement
3) expected outcomes
(examples of interventions: therapeutic exercise, functional training (home))
