Which colour do potassium ions produce in a flame
Lilac flame
Which colour do calcium ions produce in a flame test?
Red-orange
Which colour do copper ions produce in a flame test?

What coulour precipitate is produced by Copper(II) ions in a test with sodium hydroxide?
Blue
What coulour precipitate is produced by Iron(II) ions in a test with sodium hydroxide?
Green
What coulour precipitate is produced by Iron(III) ions in a test with sodium hydroxide?
Brown
What coulour precipitate is produced by Magnesium ions in a test with sodium hydroxide?
White
What coulour precipitate is produced by Calcium ions in a test with sodium hydroxide?
White
What coulour precipitate is produced by Aluminium ions in a test with sodium hydroxide?
White
How can you tell apart Magnesium, Calcium and Aluminium ions in a sodium hydroxide test?
When excess Sodium Hydroxide is added, the white precipitate produced by ALIMUNIUM redissolves
Ddescribe the Sodium Hydroxide Test
Add sodium hydroxide to the compound being tested.
How do you test for Carbonate ions?
- Add dilute acide to the compound being tested
- If carbonate ions are present there is fizzing due to the presence of carbon dioxide.
- Confirm that the gas is CO2 by bubbling it through limewater.
How do you test for Sulfate ions?
- Add diulte HCl.
- Add barium chloride
- If white precipitate forms, the compound contains sulfate ions
