Faecal elastase
A
Low levels in stool suggest pancreatic insufficiency
Elastase 1 is a protease synthesised by pancreatic acinar cells into the duodenum.

A
Removal of a piece of the mucosa lining of the upper small intestine.
Tests for coeliac disease, Crohn’s, whipped disease or intestinal infection

A
Test for celiac disease
High levels means you have the disease

Xylose test
A
To determine if carbohydrates are being absorbed normally.
Can distinguish if pancreatic enzymes of bile are not being released or whether there is a dysfunction in the intestines with absorption. Low levels suggest issue with GI mucosa
Patients ingest d-xylose then urine and blood are analysed.
