Test has Content Validity
if it includes
- Proper sample of relevant structures
(depend upon purpose)
Importance of Content validity
- ++ Content Validity = ++ accurate measure of what supp. to meas.
- test with under-rep specification = harmful washback
Approach validity which see how far results on the test agree w/ independant highly dependable assessment of candidates ability.
This assessment being criterion measure to validate
Criterion-Related Validity
Two Kinds of Criterion-Referenced Activity
1 - Concurence validity
2 - Predictive Validity
Concurent Validity
Criterion-Related Validity
- Established when Test and Criterion Administered at about same time
- How many of functions tested in the component, and how representative of complete set of functions in the objectives
Predictive Validity
Criterion-related validity
- A test can predict cadidates future performance
- Pass/Fail or Placement Tests
How to know a test really measures writing
1 - Obtain extensive sample of writing from 1st group reliably scored
2 - Compare scores (or pilot test) with score given for sample of writing
3 - If high level of agreement = measure writing ability
Face Validity
- If a test LOOKS like it measures what it is supposed to measure
- test without Face validity may not be accepted by candidates, teachers, employers, etc.
should EVERY EFFORT in constructing tests be made to ensure content validity?

- Reason why favouring direct testing
