Test Plant Tissues And Organs Flashcards
What are plant organs
Petals , leaves , stems and roots
Job of leaves
Photosynthesis
Job of stem
Supports leave and flower
Job of flower
Pollination
Job of roots
Absorbs the nutrients
What are plant organs made up of
Tissues
What are tissue made up of
Cells
Label a the tissues of the leaf
Look in the gcse biology book
What is the equation for photo synthesis
Light energy
Carbon Dioxide + water —-> glucose + oxygen
Chlorophyll
How is a leaf adapted for photosynthesis
Thin - allows gases to reach cells easily
Wide and flat - large surface area that absorbs as much light as possible
Contains veins - carry’s water to the cells and glucose alway and they support the leaf
Lots of stomata - pore on the under side of the leaf where gases can move in and out
Epidermal tissue function
Covers the whole plant and it is covered by a waxy cuticle that helps prevent water loss by evaporation
The upper epidermal layer is transparent so light can pass through to the palisade layer
Function of palisade mesophyll tissue
Most photosynthesis happens here
Has lots of chloroplasts near the top of the leaf so they can get the most light
Function of sponge mesophlly tissue
Contains big air spaces to allow a gases to diffuse in and out of cells
Function of xylem and phloem
To transport thing like water food mineral irons from the roots to the stems and leafs and to take away glucose and support the structure of the leaf
How are the tissues of leafs adapted for gaseous exchange
The lower epidermis is full of tiny holes called stomata
The air spaces in the spongy mesophlly tissue increase the rate of diffusion of gases
