Test Active Transport Flashcards
What is active transport
It is substances that need to be absorbed against a concentration gradient for example from a lower to a higher concentration
Give a exsample of where active transport happens
Root hair cells
Lower concentration of minerales and ions in the soil to the higher concentration in the root hair
What does active transport need to make it work
Needs energy from respiration
How does the root hair take up water
By osmosis
Where is active transport used in humans
In the gut when there is a lower concentration of nutrients in the gut but a higher concentration of nutrients in the blood
What are the two ways that nutrients are absorbed into the blood
Diffusion and active transport
