A
White colour indicates purer variety Hydraulic limestone bluish grey,brown or other dark colour

Heat test
A
Piece of limestone weighed and heated few hours
Weighed again and loss of weight indicate amount of carbon dioxide
From data amount of calcium carbonate in limestone worked out
- For good quality lime, CO2 emission is high.

Acid test
A
Teaspoon of lime is placed in test tube Dilute hydrochloric acid is poured and stirred
If the gel is thick – class A, flowing gel – class B and no gel - class C

Ball test
A
Ball of 40mm size are formed with stiff lime
Balls are placed in a basin of water
Class A -if no adverse effect is observed
Class B - if little expansion and cracking take place
Class C -if expansion and disintegration take place
