What are Paint, Varnish, and Distemper used for?
They are used to coat surfaces for final finishing, protection, and providing an attractive appearance to walls, ceilings, wood, and metal works.
What are Paints?
Paints are fluid material coatings applied over surfaces like timber and metals to provide color and protection.
What are Varnishes?
Varnishes are transparent or nearly transparent solutions of resinous materials applied over painted surfaces.
Where is Distemper applied?
Distemper is applied over plastered surfaces.
OBJECTIVES OF PAINTING
. It protects the surface from weathering effects of atmosphere.
- It prevent decay of wood and corrosion in metal.
.It is used to give good appearance to the surface.
- It provide a smooth surface for easy cleaning
CHARACTERISTICS OF AN IDEAL PAINT 1
It should possess a good spreading power, maximum area with minimum quantity.
- Paint should be fairly cheap and economical.
- Paint should be such that it can be easily and freely applied on the surface.
- The paint should be such that it dries in reasonable time and not too rapidly.

Paint should be such that its colour is maintained for a long time.
- Paint should form a hard and durable surface.
Paint should not affect the health of workers.

Paint should not be affected by weathering actions of the atmosphere.
- Paint should possess attractive and pleasing appearance

PRIME COAT- provide adhension
UNDER COAT -intermediate coat-giving a foundation to finishing coat
FINISHING COAT-FINAL COAT-superior coat
