History of The Purdue Case
Took place between 1877 and 1882 at Purdue University. With the Delta Delta Chapter of Sigma Chi being the first fraternity on campus on March 3, 1875. The President at the time was Emerson Elbridge White and he was totally against fraternities because he thought they presented students in a negative way. In turn he established the Matriculation Pleadge that stated no students could join greek letter organizations. The Delta Delta chapter held secret meetings in response to the pleage in order to preserve Sigma Chis Ideals. After 2 failed lawsuits against White the case was taken to the indiana supreme court where they ruled in favor of the plantiffs. Because the chapter was unable to wear their letters during that time, memebers today do not as well.

Story of Constantine
On October 17, 312 A.D the supreme empoeror of the Roman Empire, Constantine, led his men towards Rome to pursue the armies of Maxentius who was challenging his crown. Before battle Constantine viewed a cross in the sky with the words in latin translation that read “In Hoc Signo Vinces” which Constantine interpreted as “Take this sign and go out and conquer”. Then Constantine dreamed a voice commanded him to tell his soldiers to mark their shields with the letter “X” with a line through it and a mark across the top. That specic sign symbolized christ and therefore this event holds major religious significance.
