Offer a single illustration of a point
Brief example
Offer multifaceted illustrations of the idea, item, or event being described, thereby allowing the speaker to create a more detailed picture for the audience
Extended example
An illustration of something that could happen in the future if certain things occurred
Hypothetical Example
Tell tales, both real and imaginary, about practically anything under the sun. They can relate personal experiences, folk wisdom, parables, myths, and som forth
Narrative/Story
Brief stories of interesting and often humorous incidents based on real life
Anecdote
Is firsthand findings, eyewitness accounts, and people’s opinions
Testimony
Includes findings, eyewitness accounts, or opinions by professionals and trained to evaluate a given topic
Expert testimony
Testimony by no experts such as eyewitnesses. It can reveal compelling firsthand information that may be unavailable to others
Lay testimony
Represent documented occurrences, including actual events, dates,times, people and, places
Facts
Quantified evidence that summarizes, compares, and predicts things, from batting averages to birth rates
Statistics
Count of the number of times something occurs
Frequency
A quantified portion of a whole
Percentage
Describes information according to its typical characteristics
