Test 2 Flashcards
Reasons for Testing
Identify physical abilities that need improvement
Set Goals
Evaluate progress
A procedure for assessing the ability in a particular endeavor
Test
A test used to assess the ability that is performed away from the laboratory and does not require extensive training or expensive equipment
Field Test
The process of collecting test data
Measurement
The process of analyzing test results for the purpose of making decisions
Evaluation
A test administered one or more times during the training period to assess progress and modify the program as needed to maximize benifit
Midtest
Periodic reevaluation based on mid-tests administered after the training period to determine the success of the training program in achieving the training objectives
Post-Test
Degree to which a test or test item measures what it is supposed to measure
Validity
The ability of a test to represent the underlying construct
Construct Validity
The appearance to the athlete and other casual observers that the test measures what it is purported to measure
Face Validity
The assessment by experts that the test covers all relevant subtopics or component abilities in appropriate proportions
Content Validity
The extent to which test scores are associated with some other measure of the same ability
Criterion-referenced validity
The extent to which test scores are associated with those of other accepted tests measuring the same ability
Concurrent Validity
The extent to which the test score corresponds with future performance or behavior
Predictive Validity
The ability of a test to distinguish between two different constructs
Discriminant Validity
Measure of the degree of consistency or repeat ability of a test
Reliability
The lack of consistent performance by the person tested
Instra-subject Variability
The degree to which different raters agree
Inter-rater Reliability
The lack of consistent scores by a given tester
Intra-rater Variability
Strategy to promote long term training and performance improvement with preplanned, systematic variations
Periodization
Typically an entire training year
Macro Cycle
Lasting several months
Meso Cycle
One month of less
Micro Cycle
Traditional resistance training periodization model with gradually progressive mesocycle increasing in intenisty
Linear
Periodization model alternative that involves large fluctuations in the load and volume assignments for core exercise
Nonlinear
