test 13 Flashcards
Force
The cause of a change in motion, velocity or acceleration
Net force
The combination or sum of all forces acting on an object at any given time
Balanced forces
Forces on an object that are equal in size in opposite direction
Unbalanced forces
Forces on an object that are not equal in size and opposite direction
Friction
Force between two objects, which opposes motion
Air resistance
Force of air, pushing against an object
Gravity
Force of attraction between two particles of matter due to their mass
Normal force
Force exerted on one object by another perpendicular to the surface of contact
Inertia
The tendency of an object to continue its current state of motion at rest for motion
Mass
The measure of the amount of matter in an object
Weight
The measure of gravity, pulling on an object
Centripetal force
Motion of an object in a curved/ circular path
Momentum
Quantity of an objects mass multiplied by the object’s velocity
Newtons 1 law
Object at rest, and an object in motion will remain in motion, unless acted on by an outside force
(Cup notecard penny lab)
Newtons 2 law
The unbalanced force acting on an object equals the objects mass times, the object acceleration
( cart and weight lab)
Newtons 3 law
For every action, there is an equal opposite reaction- pushback law
(Walking down hallway )
