A
- people have more time off because of the unions campaigning for shorter working hours
- people are better off so hey have more disposable income
- there is better, cheaper and after transport, mainly by air, these very cheap flights cause more people going to destinations for a weekend off instead of long holidays

- areas of natural beauty
- beaches and coastlines (Ireland is not landlocked)
- recreational and sporting facilities (Croke Park)

- Climate
•Costa del Sol has a Mediterranean climate with warm, sunny summers and mild winters so it has over 300 days of sunshine in the year; this climate is attractive to tourists from Northern Europe whose weather is changeable
•the mild winters attract older tourists who purchase apartments in the area and play golf in the winter
•the warm summers attract cruise ships - Accessible
•the airports have expanded rapidly to cope with the increasing numbers of tourists e.g Malaga airport. These bigger airports make the area more accessible
•the gov invested money in the tourist industry by building railways, ports and airports to make Costa del Sol more accessible

What are the positive impacts of tourism?
A
- there are more jobs; construction and and managing e.g hotels
- farmers are paid good money for their land, on which hotels and restaurants are built
- money is spent by tourists in shops, traditional crafts such as tourism often benefit from tourism
- local suppliers of food and other services to hotels benefit
- the Spanish can encourage visitors to appreciate Spanish culture and history through visits to art galleries, museums etc.

What are the negative impacts of tourism?
A
- some jobs are seasonal and poorly paid
- high-rise hotels destroy the natural landscape
- land prices have soared because of the demand for land for hotels and restaurants, so local families cannot afford to buy houses
- holiday towns are overcrowded and this can result in traffic jams
- there is noise pollution from clubs and sea pollution with sewage
- Spanish culture may suffer as more English is spoken by employees who cater for tourists
