Terms 4 Flashcards
A two dimensional graph that shoes the relative distibution of individual measures in a data set with respect to the variables depicted by the x and y axes.

Deductive Reasoning
Involves observations of the problem behavior in relation to events that are not arranged in a systematic manner and includes ABC recording (both continuous and narrative) and scatterplot. Easier to conduct than functional analysis and they represent natural contingencies that occur within individuals natural routine.
Caution must be exercised when interpreting information, however, because they can be biased and unreliable, and they provide correlations (as opposed to functional relations).
Elements of a Descriptive Assessment
Where antecedents and consequences representing those in the person’s natural environment are arranged within an experimental design so that their separate effects on problem behavior can be observed and measured. Typically in 4 conditions: three test conditions - Contingent Attention, Contingent Escape, alone, and a control condition in which problem behavior is expected to be low because reinforcement is freely available and no demands are placed on the person.

Elements of a Functional Analysis
A verbal statement summarizing the results of an experiment (or group of related experiments) that describe the occurrence of the phenomena under study as a function of the operation of one or more specified and controlled variables in the experiment in which a specific change is one event (the dependent variable) can be produced by manipulating another even (the independent variable), and that the change in the dependent variable was unlikely the result of other factors.
Functional Relations
Experimental designs that combine multiple baseline, reversal, and/or alternating treatment tactics can also provide the basis for comparing the effects of two or more independent variables

Inductive Reasoning
ystematic presentation and examination of data regarding the target behavior and its stimulus conditions
