Revolution
A forcible overthrow of a government or social order in favour of a new system.
Empire
A group of states, countries or people under a single supreme authority, formally and Emperor or Empress (not chosen by divine right).
Enlightenment
The act of enlightening somebody to new ideas. To understand that things would be better off with changes.
Imperialism
When a country increases their power and wealth by bringing additional territories under their control.
Colonisation
Large scale immigration of people to a new location and the expansion of the civilisation and culture into this area.
Monarchy
A form of government with a monarch at the head. Ruled by divine right.
Colony
A country or area under the full or partial political control of another country and occupied by settlers from that country.
Colonialism
The control or governing influence of a nation over a dependant country, territory, or people.
Terra Nullis
Land that belongs to no-one
Treaty
A formally concluded and ratified agreement between states
Triple Entente
An alliance linking the Russian Empire, the French third Republic and the United Kingdom during World War One
Triple Alliance
An alliance between Italy, Germany and Austro-Hungarian in World War One.
Alliance
A union or association formed for mutual benefit, especially between countries or organisations
Nationalism
Spirit or aspirations common to the whole of a nation.
